We trace our heritage to the pilgrims who arrived in Pennsylvania seeking religious freedom.
The United Church of Christ came into being in 1957 with the union of two Protestant denominations: The Evangelical and Reformed Church and the Congregational Christian Churches.
We are the first denomination to ordain women ministers and the first to ordain gays and lesbians as ministers.
We, the United Church of Christ, are faithful Christians, liberal/progressive in theology and rooted in the word of God.
We recognize our calling both as individuals and as the church to live in the world: * Ministering to its needs * Contributing to the welfare of all * Being enriched by those aspects of culture that help to make life more human * Working to support laws that reflect God’s just and loving purposes for the world * Seeking justice and equality for all the needs of God’s people.
