Who We Are
We trace our heritage to the pilgrims who
arrived in M
assachusetts seeking
religious freedom.

The
United Church of Christ came into being
in 1957 with the union of two Protestant
denominations: The Evangelical and
Reformed Church and the Congregational
Christian Churches.

We are the first denomination to ordain
women ministers and the first to ordain gays
and lesbians as ministers.

We, the
United Church of Christ, are faithful
Christians, liberal/progressive in theology
and rooted in the word of God.

We recognize our calling both as individuals
and as the church to live in the world:
* Ministering to its needs
* Contributing to the welfare of all
* Being enriched by those aspects of
culture that help to make life more human
* Working to support laws that reflect God’s
just and loving purposes for the world
* Seeking justice and equality for all the
needs of God’s people.

We are a “God is Still Speaking Church.”
Our Vision
At First Congregational
United Church of Christ
we gather to worship
God.  We know ourselves
as a Christian community
through worship,
learning, fellowship and
service.
As part of the Body of
Christ, we seek to
express, receive and
share spiritual
wholeness, strengthen
our knowledge of God’s
love for us and all people,
cherish individuality and
to be aware of and
respond to the needs of
God’s people.
